Newton
High School pupils help disaster victims

Sturminster Newton High School pupils , Aqua Boxes
, and Philip Hammond International Services Chairman Sturminster Rotary Club.
Sturminster High School pupils have responded generously
to recent disasters by collecting sufficient contents to fill 23 Aqua Boxes .
Disasters come in many forms including earthquakes , cyclones , floods , and refugee
displacement , they do however all share a common factor - the most urgent single
problem facing the relief agencies is the provision of a supply of safe drinking
water . Aqua boxes provide one solution to the problem
..
The Aqua Box
scheme is an official Rotary Project , and the 23 boxes were purchased by the
Rotary Club of Sturminster Newton . Aqua Boxes have two functions . Firstly they
are filled with a selection of hardware , hygiene items , educational materials
, and clothing . Secondly , the box contains a filter cartridge and matching supply
of water treatment tablets , when the welfare items have been removed each standard
Aqua Box can be used to purify 1100 Litres of polluted water making it safe to
drink.
