frame is virtually complete in its rough state. Peter now starts to bring it to

June 2006: Completing the finishing touches to the base and beginning to work
on the design detail.  Gently

is now articulating the design to establish the base depth of the composition.  Articulating

May 2006: Despite
the very inclement weather Peter Griffin has begun working on the column. He
begins by transferring the detail of the first panel, using carbon paper, from
his scale drawing on to the surface of the stone ready for carving to begin.  All

May 2006: This
morning saw the stone blocks arrive on site from the quarry at Portland. The
rest of the day was spent lifting them from the lorry and lowering them gently
and accurately on to the previouly prepared plinth under the supervision of Peter
Griffin, the sculptor, and the watchful eye of Joe Casey.
