The frame is virtually complete in its rough state. Peter now starts to bring it to life. See the difference 9 days make.

The design is now starting to emerge as Peter exposes it in relief.

Completing the finishing touches to the base and beginning to work on the design detail.

24 May 2006:
Peter is now articulating the design to establish the base depth of the composition.

23 May 2006:
Despite the very inclement weather Peter Griffin has begun working on the column.  He begins by transferring the detail of the first panel, using carbon paper, from his scale drawing on to the surface of the stone ready for carving to begin.

15 May 2006:
This morning saw the stone blocks arrive on site from the quarry at Portland.  The rest of the day was spent lifting them from the lorry and lowering them gently and accurately on to the previouly prepared plinth under the supervision of Peter Griffin, the sculptor, and the watchful eye of Joe Casey.
